Become A Mentee.
Become A Mentee
Young men join the mentoring community by application or referral by a social agency. Upon acceptance, youth go through a three-stage process in order to join the mentoring community (The Village). The first stage is an 18-week program we term as Initiation. During this stage, there are mandatory weekly group sessions that focus on building relationships within the group through team-building activities, field trips, and group mentoring focused on the book, Uncommon Manhood by Tony Dungy.
The second stage is called Implementation. This stage is an 18-week program in which the students implement what they have learned through weekly community service activities. The objective of this stage is to allow the students to engage their community through positive and hands-on interactions. During this stage, the young men will learn the basics of construction through an accredited school which, upon completion, will receive an accredited certificate.
The last stage is Graduation. In order to progress to this stage, the student MUST have a participation rate of 90% during the Initiation and Implementation stages. When a student reaches this stage, they will attend a "crossover program" where they will receive a certificate of completion, the Uncommon Man book, an official RLI jacket with their name it, and membership into a mentoring community, The Village.
